Minneapolis, Portland, and Chicago are the best cities for bicycling in 2018, according to the revamped Bike Score rankings by the Redfin company
Walk Score.
The Bike Score tool rates locations based on several factors on its bike-friendliness, such as access to bike loans, road connectivity, and hilliness. Bike Score ratings are available now for nearly 2,000 cities and about 20,000 neighborhoods on walkscore.com. Redfin has identified bike paths and bike lanes in cities and neighborhoods across the country.
Minneapolis once again topped the list for 2018 as the most bikeable city in the country. Minneapolis lawmakers have made strides in achieving greater bike-access for its residents. In 2015, lawmakers passed a protected bikeway update to develop goals and benchmarks for making biking in Minneapolis more widespread and safe. The metro area has added more protected bike lanes on city streets that use reflective white pylons as a divider on busier streets. It has a goal of adding 30 miles of on-street protected bike lanes by 2020, Redfin reports.
“As both a mayor and a bicyclist, I place a high priority on sustainable and inclusive transit,” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told Redfin. “This first place finish is a testament to our collective commitment to the Minneapolis model for meeting the transportation, safety, and environmental demands of the 21st century.”
